An exciting variety of drought friendly plantings from around the world thrive in the Bay Area. We enjoy mixing a variety of plantings according to form, texture and color. Below is a sample of some of our favorites.
California Drought Tolerant Natives
Gardening with natives brings the natural beauty of California into our landscape with the benefit of attracting hummingbirds, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Natives require less maintenance and generally have a stronger resistance to diseases and pests. We are especially fond of a variety of manzanita, ceanothus, and salvia.
Succulents make a bold statement in our gardens. Their plump form is a nice contrast to finer, textured plants in the periphery. Succulents are some of the hardiest members of a garden. They are also easy to probagate and give to friends.
South African Drought Tolerant Plants
Leucadendrons and Proteas have increasingly become popular in the Bay Area with their striking form and brilliant colors. They are some our our favorite ornamentals.
Australian Drought Tolerant Plants
Some of our favorite Australian varieties are Ageonis "After Dark" and several kinds of desert grasses which give our drought friendly gardens a beautiful texture and fine backdrop to striking ornamentals.
